Lattices and Maximum Flow Algorithms in Planar Graphs
We show that the left/right relation on the set of s-t-paths of a plane graph induces a so-called submodular lattice. If the embedding of the graph is s-t-planar, this lattice is even consecutive. This implies that Ford and Fulkerson’s uppermost path algorithm for maximum flow in such graphs is indeed a special case of a two-phase greedy algorithm on lattice polyhedra. We also show that the pro...
متن کاملRecognizing IC-Planar and NIC-Planar Graphs
We prove that triangulated IC-planar and NIC-planar graphs can be recognized in cubic time. A graph is 1-planar if it can be drawn in the plane with at most one crossing per edge. A drawing is IC-planar if, in addition, each vertex is incident to at most one crossing edge and NIC-planar if two pairs of crossing edges share at most one vertex. In a triangulated drawing each face is a triangle. I...
متن کاملConvex drawings of hierarchical planar graphs and clustered planar graphs
Hierarchical graphs are graphs with layering structures; clustered graphs are graphs with recursive clustering structures. Both have applications in VLSI design, CASE tools, software visualisation and visualisation of social networks and biological networks. Straight-line drawing algorithms for hierarchical graphs and clustered graphs have been presented in [P. Eades, Q. Feng, X. Lin and H. Nag...
متن کاملRandom planar graphs and the number of planar graphs
We survey recent progress on the enumeration of labelled planar graph and on the distribution of several parameters in random planar graphs. The main goal is to show how to use generating functions to obtain asymptotic estimates and limit probability laws. The emphasis is on presenting the main ideas while keeping technical details to a minimum.
متن کاملFitting Planar Graphs on Planar Maps
Graph and cartographic visualization have the common objective to provide intuitive understanding of some underlying data. We consider a problem that combines aspects of both by studying the problem of fitting planar graphs on planar maps. After providing an NP-hardness result for the general decision problem, we identify sufficient conditions so that a fit is possible on a map with rectangular...
